My InvestFest Lesson: Success Begins with a Decision

Personal development and professional education have been cornerstones of my entrepreneurial career. From the beginning, I understood that if I wanted to build an exceptional business, I had to continually develop the person responsible for building it. The business could only grow to the level of my ability to lead, think, learn, adapt and make decisions.
So I started by learning from the best.
I sought out people who were already doing what I wanted to do, studied how successful businesses were built, invested in education and intentionally placed myself in environments that challenged the way I thought. I understood early that wanting to be successful was not enough. I needed to develop the knowledge, discipline, confidence and capability required to actually create success.
That process taught me something important about the relationship between capability and capacity. Before we can expand what we are able to manage, produce, earn or build, we usually have to expand what we believe we are capable of doing. Belief does not replace preparation, but it influences whether we are willing to prepare in the first place. When you begin believing that something greater is possible for you, you become more willing to learn what you do not know, practice what you have not mastered and make decisions that stretch you beyond what has been comfortable.
That has been part of my approach throughout my entrepreneurial journey. I don’t invest in personal development simply because I enjoy learning. I invest because every new level of knowledge, awareness and experience increases my ability to recognize opportunities, solve problems and lead more effectively. As I increase my capability, I increase my capacity. And as my capacity grows, so does the potential of the business I am building.
That philosophy is what took me to InvestFest.
I went there intentionally. For three days, I listened, engaged, learned and immersed myself in an environment filled with entrepreneurs, investors, business leaders and people who were actively creating wealth. I expected to leave with new strategies, ideas and information, and I certainly did. But somewhere between the conversations, presentations, observations and experiences, all of those lessons began pointing me toward one much larger conclusion.
The most successful people I observed were not simply great at making money.
They were great at making decisions.
That became my InvestFest lesson.
